Jenkins signs Westchester law prohibiting sale of camouflaged vaping devices

WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Tuesday signed a new law prohibiting the sale of camouflaged vaping devices to entice children to buy them.

County Board of Legislators’ Health Committee Chairwoman Jewel Williams Johnson said it is another tool to keep vaping products out of the hands of young people.

“As parents and trusted adults, we work hard to teach our children to recognize danger, but what happens when danger is deliberately designed to look familiar, to look ordinary, to look unsuspicious? What happens when danger is designed to look mundane or commonplace, to look completely harmless or innocuous?” she asked. “That is what makes these products so very troubling. They do not simply conceal a vaping device; they conceal risk, addiction, and the very real possibility of lasting harm.”

Jenkins said the new law reflects growing concern over marketing material targeted specifically at youth, and aligns with the county’s ongoing efforts to reduce nicotine use among minors.
